Emergency Fund for Nursing Students

Welcome to the Emergency Support Fund of the Phi-Xi Chapter for Nursing Students

JUSTIFICATION

Sigma Theta Tau International, founded in 1922, is an honor society of nursing dedicated to improving the health of populations through the scientific development of nursing practice. The Phi Xi Chapter of Sigma, formally established in September 2011, is committed to the core principles that unify this society, particularly the concept of excellence in clinical practice, education, research, and leadership in nursing. In this context, to contribute to the development of the profession and the improvement of population health, this project is developed with the aim of reducing poverty and social exclusion among nursing students who are in demonstrated economic need.

The project constitutes a health advocacy intervention, integrating and developing a set of actions aimed at defending the rights of students to promote their personal, family, and social well-being. In a holistic approach, the role of partners from various public schools, faculty, and students is deemed important in identifying students with economic vulnerabilities and mobilizing synergies to minimize bureaucratic processes, maximizing healthy environments. This involves a partnership with the Coimbra School of Nursing (ESEnfC) to ensure the necessary resources for identifying students and managing the fund, along with the ESEnfC Student Association and the National Federation of Nursing Student Associations (FNAEE). The coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of the project's implementation are the responsibility of the Phi Xi Chapter, the 492nd chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, based at the Coimbra School of Nursing.
